The Interfaith Outreach Food Shelf is now a SuperShelf
Interfaith Outreach provides a dignified experience to all who engage with our food shelf. A major part of this experience is listening to the ideas and input of food shelf guests. Over the past few years we have heard a desire for healthier and more culturally-specific foods. With this in mind, Interfaith partnered with the SuperShelf team to transform the food shelf to become even more respectful and user-driven.
SuperShelf is a collaborative effort with the University of Minnesota, Health Partners, and The Food Group to focus on creating a welcoming environment for the community to access healthy foods at local food shelves. As part of this transformation, we increased the variety of healthy, culturally-specific foods as well as redesigned our space to make the healthiest choice the easiest choice. Interfaith is excited to make this change as we continue serving our community. We are deeply grateful for the SuperShelf grant funding that made this improvement possible.
During the planning processes, Interfaith invited all current clients to co-create the new SuperShelf with us and 20 clients applied to be on the Client Advisory Board. A group of finalists – 10 clients – were selected considering the various ages, household sizes, and ethnicities of the participants so we could have a diverse perspective in the transformation process. We are so grateful for their feedback and input.
Going forward, the Interfaith Outreach Food Shelf will look and feel much more like a grocery store shopping experience that highlights healthy and culturally responsive foods. The newly remodeled SuperShelf takes effect September 20, 2021.
