Volunteer Appreciation Week 2024

Big-hearted Volunteering at the IOCP Food Shelf

When Colleen Guest retired, her goal was “to spend time working with organizations near and dear to my heart.” She chose Interfaith Outreach because she “loves the entire mission and everything we do.” She appreciates the breadth and depth of the work too.  “Coming to one building, working with different service arms, and using revenue from Resale Select to help offset ongoing costs is a great concept.”

Colleen’s father was a grocery store manager, so she is very familiar with the grocery industry and food insecurity. “Working at the Food Shelf is a perfect fit for me. It is my opportunity to give back to my community.” Colleen helps clients with specific requests and dietary needs, taking time to talk and listen. “My favorite part is working with clients, getting to know them.” She finds personal contact fulfilling. “Clients are so appreciative. It can be as simple as remembering they have a pet or favorite type of bread.” She says she goes home tired, “but, my heart is full.”

Colleen believes Interfaith Outreach “is a gem” and wants more people to volunteer.  (And we at IOCP agree!)

 Thank you, Colleen!
