GREAT EXPECTATIONS:
THE DANGER OF A SINGLE STORY
Join us for an engaging discussion about how stories shape the ecosystem of support for kids in our community
Tuesday, June 8
12-1:30 p.m. via Zoom
Free and open to all
Great Expectations works to strengthen the entire “ecosystem of support” – families, teachers, schools, community members and organizations – that is needed to bring about true, systemic changes and educational equity for all kids and families in our community. Join us for an engaging discussion about how stories – stories about ourselves, others, different cultures and different times – can help or hurt this ecosystem of support.
“The Danger of a Single Story” is a powerful Ted Talk given by award-winning author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. In the Ted Talk, Adichie shares stories of the stereotypes she held about others, and ones Americans held about her. Local parents Denise Silva and Kristen Spargo invite everyone interested in supporting kids in reaching their fullest potential to join them to view Adichie’s Ted Talk on Zoom, reflect on the stories she shares and discuss them together. Please join us!
